Inger Saphire-Bernstein joined the American Urological Association (AUA) today as manager of regulation. In this position, Ms. Saphire-Bernstein will monitor, identify and analyze proposed regulations relevant to urology, and will be responsible for analyzing the impact of regulations on physician practice, soliciting input from relevant AUA members, committees, internal departments and outside organizations to formulate and communicate AUA positions on government regulations.


“It is imperative that today’s medical associations closely monitor and be prepared to immediately and fully respond to healthcare regulations that affect both physicians and the patients they treat,” said AUA Associate Executive Director of Health Policy Beth Kosiak, PhD. “I am confident that the addition of Ms. Saphire-Bernstein will enable the AUA to expand its regulatory affairs activities to better support our members.”


Ms. Saphire-Bernstein has more than 25 years of experience in health policy, primarily as a senior level professional with Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. She served as Project Manager of Integrated Health Resources and the Assistant Director of Physician and External Relations for the Office of Clinical Affairs of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. Ms. Saphire-Bernstein has published in the Harvard Business Review, the American Journal of Bioethics and Medical Care Research and Review. Ms. Saphire-Bernstein holds a Bachelors degree from Harvard University and a Masters degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
