LINTHICUM, MD, December 16, 2009––The American Urological Association (AUA), a nonprofit organization with more than 16,000 members worldwide, is pleased to announce that Karen Lencoski, JD, MBA, has been appointed as the new Government Relations and Advocacy Manager.
Ms. Lencoski, a health policy attorney, brings more than 10 years of government relations experience to the position, including serving as a director with the Society of General Internal Medicine and with Scientific and Commercial Relations for Sanofi Aventis Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Lencoski’s primary responsibilities will include promoting the AUA’s federal legislative agenda on Capitol Hill and keeping AUA members informed of important legislative updates.
“Karen Lencoski’s expertise in health policy will be an asset as we move forward with our expansion of government relations efforts,” said Director of Government Relations and Advocacy Priscilla Chatman, JD. “Our nation is at a critical juncture—health policy reform is a major priority for the incoming administration, and we want to ensure that urology’s voice is heard in this revived debate. Karen’s addition to our growing government relations and advocacy team will further help us to achieve that goal.”
The AUA Board of Directors recently approved a series of steps to improve urology’s level of activity on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies through devotion of resources to a new, centrally located DC office, an expanded staff and commitment to execution of a comprehensive legislative plan. These actions will ensure that urology’s concerns are well represented to key decision makers when healthcare policy is enacted.
Ms. Lencoski received her bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin, her master’s degree in business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University and her juris doctorate degree with a concentration in health law and health policy from Concord Law School of Kaplan University.
