LINTHICUM, MD, July 3, 2008– The American Urological Association (AUA), a nonprofit organization with more than 16,000 members worldwide, is pleased to announce that after an exhaustive  national search, Priscilla Chatman, JD, has been appointed Director of Government Relations and Advocacy for the AUA’s greatly expanded government relations program.  Ms. Chatman, a health policy attorney,  brings more than 15 years  of senior level  experience to the position,  including serving as Vice President for Government for the Lupus Foundation of America,  Counsel and Director of Government Relations for the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare as well as serving as Special Assistant for then US Senator Harris Wofford.  In these roles, she achieved recognition for both her effective leadership and legislative achievements. Ms. Chatman’s in-depth knowledge of Medicare and her dynamic leadership skills led to her twice being appointed Chair of the Health Committee for the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations, a coalition of 53 national organizations that address senior’s issues.   In addition, her extensive experience with members of Congress includes being invited to share the podium with them to give Medicare policy speeches.


The AUA Board of Directors recently approved a series of steps to improve urology’s level of activity on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies through devotion of resources to a new centrally located DC office, an expanded staff and commitment to execution of a comprehensive legislative plan.  These actions will ensure that urology’s concerns are well represented to key decision makers when healthcare policy is made. 


Ms. Chatman is eminently qualified to lead the AUA at this critical juncture.  “Priscilla Chatman is the right leader to take urology to a new level of participation and visibility.  Her legal training, and diverse legislative experience and contacts guarantee that urology will be a force to be reckoned with. We are simply thrilled to have someone of her caliber,” said AUA Associate Executive Director of Health Policy Beth Kosiak, PhD. 


Ms. Chatman received her bachelor’s degree from Temple University and her juris doctorate degree from Widener University School of Law where she graduated Order of the Barrister for outstanding achievement in oral advocacy.
